VIT stands for Vellore Institute of Technology, which is one of the top ranking universities of India. Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) is an entrance exam for admission to bachelor engineering courses in Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, and Tamil Nadu. VIT is considered to be amongst the best institutes in the country for technical education.
VIT was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College. In 2001 it got status of a university by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Vellore Institute of Technology is regarded as one of the best institutions in India because it provides the best of facilities, highly qualified faculty, state of the art infrastructure and very good opportunities for placements. VIT has a huge eco friendly campus surrounded with greenery all over.
Last year about 1, 38,000 candidates appeared for VITEEE therefore competition is quite tough. VIT has been constantly ranked among the top engineering colleges in the country by various surveys.
Eligibility criteria:
Only candidates who have studied in regular, full time and formal education are eligible to apply for the entrance examination. The date of births of candidates who wish to apply should fall on or after July 1, 1989. A candidate should have passed class 12th examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories and other reserved categories, the minimum aggregate required in PCM is 50%. Candidates who want to apply for\B.Techbiotechnolog / bioinformatics /biomedical engineering may have either PCM/PCB in 10+2 with atleast 60% aggregate in PCM/PCB. Those who are appearing for 10+2 exam in 2011 can also apply.
Availability of Application forms for VITEEE 2011:
The Prospectus and the information brochure for VITEEE B.Tech Degree programme -2011, along with the necessary enclosures which include the Application Form and a printed self-addressed envelope, can be obtained against cash payment of Rs. 750/- from the various designated branches of post offices are expected to be available by December end.. The form may also be obtained by sending a request to VIT along with a demand draft. A candidate can also obtain the form directly from the VIT University as well.

Pattern of Examination:
VITEEE is considered to be one of the toughest but a very scientifically oriented test. VITEEE is of two and a half durations and has 150 objective type questions from class 12th syllabus of Physics, Chemistry and Maths and Or Biology. One can either appear for biology or for mathematics or for both. There is no negative marking.
