IIT Council gave green signal for Medical studies, now IIT will soon offerMedical courses. IIT also been allowed to employ 10% of foreign nationals to permanent faculty positions and can admit up to 25% foreign students for open post-graduate courses. These decisions were taken by Human Resource Development minister Kapil Sibal, who was recently headed a meeting of IIT council. These decisions will be implemented after amending the Institute of Technologies Act.
But, the much-awaited reforms in the IIT-JEE entrance examination could not have agreed to new proposal. IIT council dismissed the recommendation of professor Acharya and forms a new committee to further study the issue which will give report in three months.
Mr Sibal said that the IITs will require the approval of the Medical Council of India before launching any course in Medical. He also clarified that no MCI approval would be required where the IITs engaged with inter-disciplinary research for the advancement of learning and dissemination of knowledge not leading to a degree or qualification for the practice of Medical.
